Once I discovered that I was going to this year's SXSW Interactive I began making lists (it's a thing I do). While I am going to be in Austin for 12 days, SXSW Interactive is only four of those days. The first list was not a list of sessions that I wanted to attend, don't worry, that was my second list. I started looking at things to do in Austin related to history and politics (see my Presidential Biography Project for insight into this). I have at least a day's worth of history to take in.
The next up was a list of sessions that I wanted to attend. The official SXSW website offers a handy interactive tool for this. You register with the site then you scan through the sessions and mark those that interest you with a star. After you have perused through the overwhelmingly tempting list of events you can look at your schedule. I discovered that I wanted to attend three or four sessions in each and every time slot. Then began the obsession, fortunately I was able to filter the session list down once I was given the assignment to cover the work-life balance impact of interactive media for a great little newspaper.
Now I have begun the packing lists. I am taking an Amtrak train to Austin from Los Angeles. I thought it would be fun to take an old fashioned transportation to one of the premiere interactive/new technology + media events.
